Chambers congratulates Charlotte Ventham who was officially appointed as King’s Counsel today. The Lord Chancellor presided over the appointment ceremony at Westminster Hall, where he formally bestowed the title to 99 barristers.
The title of King’s Counsel is awarded to those who have demonstrated particular skill and expertise in the conduct of advocacy. It is made to advocates who have rights of audience in the higher courts of England and Wales and have demonstrated the competencies in the Competency Framework to a standard of excellence. The King’s Counsel Selection Panel is responsible for recommendations to the Lord Chancellor on appointment of King’s Counsel.
As a junior, Charlotte was recognised as a leading specialist in police law, public law, human rights, discrimination, inquests and inquiries and malfeasance claims. Below is an overview of her career to date.
Reflecting on a memorable day spent between Chambers, the High Court and Westminster Hall amongst colleagues, family and friends, Charlotte commented: “It is a great honour to be appointed KC and I am delighted to be able to enjoy this moment with my family, friends and colleagues who have all supported me over many years. I am thrilled to be embarking on this new stage of my career.”
Head of Chambers, Jason Beer KC said: “Charlotte’s elevation to King’s Counsel is richly deserved and a source of great pride to Chambers. Having worked closely with Charlotte over the years, I have seen up close her abilities – especially as an advocate – often in difficult and sensitive cases. I look forward to seeing her deploy those same skills in silk, as she develops what will doubtless be a stellar practice.”
