The inquest into the death of Police Sergeant Matt Ratana concludes

HM Senior Coroner for South London this week concluded the inquest into the death of Police Sergeant Matt Ratana. PS Ratana was shot dead on 25 September 2020 at Windmill Road Custody Centre in Croydon. PS Ratana’s killer was convicted of his murder and was sentenced in July 2023 to imprisonment for life.

The inquest has taken place over three weeks and examined the circumstances leading up to PS Ratana’s death, including the actions of Metropolitan Police Service officers along with police policy and training in relation to searching persons.
