Fiona Barton QC and Robert Cohen acted for the Chief Constable of Surrey Police in the inquests into the deaths of the five victims of the Guildford Pub Bombings. The Coroner considered the circumstances in which four service personnel and one civilian died following a bomb attack on the Horse and Groom Public House in Guildford on 5th October 1974.Those inquests have now concluded with the Coroner handing down a narrative conclusion in which he confirmed that each of the five victims was unlawfully killed. Over several weeks the Coroner heard evidence largely drawn from the Surrey Police investigation. A large number of retired police officers were called to give evidence.
Fiona and Robert have extensive experience of acting for public authorities in inquests including in relation to mass-casualty events.
