In the Telegraph’s obituary of Sir Oliver Popplewell on 7th June, it states that he was a former tenant at the chambers of Ronnie Armstrong-Jones at 5 Essex Court. While this was a few years before 5 Essex Court was formally founded in 1954, it appears our former premises has been home to some particularly interesting people of note over the years.
As well as becoming a High Court Judge, Sir Oliver Popplewell was a first-class cricketer and served as president of the MCC. The obituary mentions some of his high-profile cases and talks about his common sense approach.
