Russell Fortt successfully defends the Metropolitan Police in a High Court action in false imprisonment, assault and trespass to goods and land

In Morley v Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis, the claimant, a former member of the 80’s band Scritti Politti, claimed damages for psychiatric injury  and loss of earnings arising out of his arrest and detention during a day of Extinction Rebellion protests.  He had been driving a vehicle modified with a cage on the roof whilst on his way to an exhibition at the Excel Conference Centre.  He claimed that his explanation for the conditon of his vehicle and his movements that day ought to and did allay the suspicions of the arresting officer who he claimed then arrested him on the orders of more senior officers.
