Before joining Chambers, Iain completed his pupillage at the Government Legal Department. At the Ministry of Justice he advised prison officials on special prison regimes, and assisted the Home Secretary on the Article 2 ground in Re Dillon [2026] UKSC 15.
Iain spent his second six on secondment at a leading public and commercial set, working in public law, human rights, information rights, and commercial litigation. Under Advocate’s Pupil Pledge he represented a claimant in the employment tribunal.
Iain took the Graduate Diploma in Law with distinction and the Bar Practice Course with an Outstanding, both at the University of Law, funded by an Exhibition Scholarship and Duke of Edinburgh Entrance Award from Inner Temple. He is completing an LLM at the University of Vienna, and has interned in the Terrorism Prevention Branch of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, also in Vienna.
Before coming to the Bar, Iain was a professional classical musician, having graduated in composition and piano from the Royal College of Music.
