Aimee Riese

Aimee Riese accepts instructions in all of Chambers’ core practice areas.

Aimee joined 5 Essex Chambers in September 2023.

Prior to joining chambers, Aimee built considerable experience in inquiries, inquests and public law. Aimee was First Junior Counsel to the Chair of the Dame Linda Dobbs Review. She was also instructed as part of the inquiry counsel team on the Undercover Policing Inquiry. She was junior counsel to the inquest in a high-profile Article 2 inquest. She has carried out advisory work for government departments on a range of issues and cases.

Aimee’s significant criminal advocacy experience means she is a confident and compelling advocate in front of different tribunals and skilled in witness handling, including professional and vulnerable witnesses. She has appeared in a broad spectrum of criminal matters in both the Magistrates’ Courts and Crown Court, with experience handling a range of civil behaviour orders as well as matters under the Proceeds of Crime Act. Aimee’s criminal law background means she is well placed to advise on issues that intersect public and criminal law matters.

Aimee has a strong background in human rights. She was awarded an LLM in Human Rights Law (distinction, first in class). Prior to the Bar, Aimee worked at various human rights organisations and was appointed by the Ministry of Justice as a Member of the Independent Monitoring Board at Harmondsworth Immigration Removal Centre.
