This inquest began at the Suffolk Coroner’s Court this week, before Senior Coroner Nigel Parsley, and is due to last 3 to 4 weeks.
Corrie McKeague was an RAF Gunner who disappeared after a night out drinking and socialising in Bury St Edmunds on the night of Friday 23rd to Saturday 24th September 2016. The evidence has suggested that Corrie remained happy and friendly during the course of the night. He was seen on a number of occasions on CCTV cameras as he walked through Bury St Edmunds in the early hours of the morning. There was no CCTV footage of Corrie at all after 3.25am. Despite what has been reported to be one of the most expensive missing person investigations that Suffolk Constabulary has conducted, no further trace was found of Corrie. Corrie made no known contact with his family, friends or colleagues since he disappeared and there have been no financial transactions identified that can be linked to him.
Despite Corrie’s body never being found, the Chief Coroner for England and Wales granted the application of Suffolk’s Senior Coroner, made at the request of Corrie’s family, that an inquest be held into Corrie’s death.
This high-profile inquest continues to attract extensive media coverage, including on the BBC, ITV, Sky News, STV, The Times, The Telegraph, The Independent and a number of regional and local newspapers.
