Fiona Barton QC and Robert Cohen represent Surrey Police at the adjourned inquest into the death of Alexander Perepilichnyy which resumes today.
Mr Perepilchnyy, a Russian national living in the UK, collapsed and died whilst jogging near his home in November 2012 . He was a “whistleblower” in respect of an alleged £150m tax fraud by Russian officials which was at that time under investigation in Switzerland. The inquest is examining whether there is evidence to support the theory that he may have been killed by Russian state agents seeking to prevent him from giving evidence. His case is being linked by the media to the recent chemical attacks in Salisbury.
