Paige Jones represented the Chief Constable of South Wales Police in Cocaine Toxicity Inquest

11 March 2025

Paige represented the Chief Constable of South Wales police at a 7 day jury inquest in Pontypridd Coroner’s Court.

The inquest followed the death of James Barnes, a 45 year old male, who died in custody following the ingestion of a wrap of Class A drugs which subsequently led to seizures and cocaine toxicity more than 6 hours later. After hearing 6 days of evidence, including live evidence from multiple officers and forensic experts, the jury returned a conclusion of misadventure.

The Consultant Forensic Physician giving evidence commended the SWP officers on the quality of their emergency care and CPR.
