The Independent Inquiry relating to Afghanistan, chaired by the Rt Hon Sir Charles Haddon-Cave, is investigating allegations of murder by UK Special Forces during operations in Afghanistan in 2010-2013. It is also investigating the MOD’s response to the allegations, including the Royal Military Police investigations known as Operations Northmoor and Cestro.
There have been extensive hearings to date, including substantial evidence heard in closed sessions, from which gists have been put into public.
On 27 and 28 January 2025, the Inquiry held public hearings where it heard expert evidence from a former Chief Constable, Alan Pughsley QPM, concerning the RMP investigations. Mr Pughsley’s evidence remains provisional, and will be reviewed in the light of further evidence from RMP witnesses in due course. John was sole counsel for the RMP at the hearings.
As well as John, Paige Jones is also part of the RMP counsel team.
