Following the murders by John Lowe of Christine and Lucy Lee in 2014, and after multiple investigations by the state into the actions of Surrey Police and a murder trial in which Lowe was convicted, the Senior Coroner for Surrey has re-opened these inquests into the deaths of Christine and Lucy Lee. The inquests, which started this week and are scheduled to last 5 weeks, will include an examination of the assessment by Surrey Police of the risk posed by Lowe, with particular focus on firearms licensing systems and decisions. Alison Hewitt is counsel to the inquests and Jason Beer QC and Bobby Talalay act for Surrey Police, instructed by Weightmans LLP.
