Chambers is delighted to announce that Jason Beer KC has been made an Honorary Professor of Law by the University of Warwick with effect from 1st August 2026. Jason will continue with his practice at the Bar at 5 Essex Chambers, as well as sitting as a Deputy High Court Judge (KBD and ChD) and a Recorder on the South Eastern Circuit.
Jason was an undergraduate at the University of Warwick between 1988 and 1991 before coming to 5 Essex Chambers. He has since appeared in 28 public inquiries and was the author of Public Inquiries (Oxford University Press, 2011). In the recent past he has been working with the University of Warwick to develop academic research into the commissioning, conduct and output of public inquiries.
Jason said: “I am honoured to have been appointed. The School of Law is at the forefront of research and teaching in relation to public inquiries (including the provision from September this year of an exciting optional module for undergraduates: Public Inquiries: Democracy, Truth and Justice Beyond the Courtroom). I am very grateful to Professor Andrew Williams, Head of the School of Law, for nominating and sponsoring my appointment. I am very much looking forward to contributing to the work of the University in this important field.”
