On 10 June 2024, a jury, sitting with Area Coroner Emma Brown at Birmingham & Solihull Coroner’s Court, returned the conclusion of road traffic collision. At 12:35 am on 16 October 2023, Mr Scott was ejected from his vehicle upon colliding with two other vehicles at approximately 65mph. This followed a brief pursuit which police abandoned after just under 2 minutes due to increases in risk assessment. The jury heard from the police driver, who held advanced driving and initial phase pursuit qualifications, the police passenger, the control room inspector, and an assessor from the force’s Driving Standards Unit. The jury’s determination indicated no deviations from training and policy for police pursuits, and the Coroner directed that only a conclusion of road traffic collision could safely be returned.
