IICSA report into Ampleforth and Downside – Alan Payne and Jonathan Dixey appeared

9 August 2018

The Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse today published its investigation report into Ampleforth and Downside as part of its investigation into the Roman Catholic Church.

The report highlights the evidence heard by the Inquiry of appalling sexual abuse inflicted over decades on children as young as seven at Ampleforth, in North Yorkshire and eleven at Downside, in Somerset.  The Inquiry heard evidence over three weeks from victims and survivors, senior members of the clergy, the police and others.

The Inquiry’s report can be found here.

A public hearing on a third EBC abbey and school (Ealing and St Benedict’s) will be held in early 2019, following which a further report will be published which will include recommendations arising from the overall English Benedictine Congregation case study.

Alan Payne appeared on behalf of the Chief Constable of North Yorkshire Police.

Jonathan Dixey appeared on behalf of the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis.
