Achievements

5 Essex Chambers has been recognised for its commitment and contribution to - and achievements in - equality, diversity and inclusion, including in the following ways:

  • 5 Essex Chambers is commended in the prestigious Chambers UK Bar Awards 2022 for Diversity and Inclusion.
  • We are proud to be first in the ‘Most Female KCs’ category of the ‘Legal Cheek Most Lists’, with 80% of our silks being female and sixth in the ‘Most BME KCs’ category, at 20%.
  • The Pupillage Committee was shortlisted for the Equality and Diversity Award in the LexisNexis Legal Awards 2019.
  • Peter Laverack was shortlisted for the Pro Bono Award in the LexisNexis Legal Awards 2019, having achieved significant success in the landmark case of Jones v Attorney General of Trinidad and Tobago, which decriminalised homosexuality in the Caribbean nation and having worked on a number of other Commonwealth human rights cases. In continuation of that work, Peter is instructed on several matters in Caribbean jurisdictions. In November 2019 at the Cayman Islands Court of Appeal, he secured legal recognition for same-sex couples via civil partnership.
  • Georgina Wolfe was a runner up in the First 100 Years project ‘Inspirational Women in Law Award 2017’ and contributed an important essay on how can women shape the future of the legal industry.
