Brook House Inquiry public hearings commence

23 November 2021

The Brook House Inquiry was established to investigate the decisions, actions and circumstances surrounding the mistreatment of detained persons at the Brook House Immigration Removal Centre as shown in the BBC Panorama programme ‘Under-Cover: Britain’s Immigration Secrets’, which aired on 4 September 2017. The Inquiry will reach conclusions with regard to the treatment of detained persons and whether there is credible evidence of mistreatment contrary to article 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights and then make any recommendations. The Inquiry’s full terms of reference can be found here.

Phase 1 of the Inquiry’s public hearings, which commenced today, will continue until mid-December 2021.  Phase 2 of the Inquiry will take place in February and March 2022.

The hearings will be streamed online, accessible through the Inquiry’s website.
