5 Essex Chambers is delighted to announce that Bilal Rawat is to be appointed King’s Counsel.
“I am delighted and excited to be taking silk. This achievement would not have been possible without the support of the clients and colleagues with whom I have been fortunate to work, particularly over the last six years as well as a stellar clerking team at 5 Essex. I look forward to continuing to contribute to Chambers’ ongoing success.” Bilal commented.
Jason Beer KC, Head of Chambers, said: “Bilal’s talents as a civil and public lawyer, and as advocate, have been plain to see to all of us that have shared a court room with Bilal. I am so pleased that Bilal chose to join 5 Essex in December 2018 to develop his practice – since then, he has not only undertaken some great work (including CTI in both the Grenfell Tower Inquiry and the British Virgin Islands Commission of Inquiry) but has wholeheartedly thrown himself into the life of Chambers.”
Bilal is recognised as a leading junior and his practice encompasses public law, police law, inquests and inquiries, national security, and personal injury. He acts for government departments, police forces, local authorities and quasi-public companies. Bilal is often instructed in complex cases where the issues require sensitive handling and have reputational impact. He is a member of Attorney General Panel of Special Advocates and the Attorney General’s A Panel. Bilal is ranked in Chambers UK and The Legal 500 for Inquests and Public Inquiries.
