Re Cio Kisack (Thames Valley Police).
Barney represented Thames Valley Police in a jury inquest in Oxford, enquiring into the death of a 25-year-old man whose agitated behaviour, including being seen by many concerned members of the public waving around an axe and a large knife, resulted in armed firearms officers being called to the address. Despite their rapid response, by the time those officers arrived the young male had collapsed on the floor and the officers therefore engaged in immediate welfare and first aid, including CPR. Paramedics attended, but the young male died, with the pathologist subsequently identifying acute cocaine intoxication as a contributing factor. In the course of giving his evidence, Professor Lyon, an expert in A and E medicine instructed on behalf of the Coroner, commended the officers for the quality of their care.
