Jack Williams and Katherine Powell were tragically found deceased in January 2022 in Dorset, having been reported missing by their families. Shortly before their deaths, they had been arrested by Dorset Police and bailed. The inquest examined Jack and Katherine’s involvement with social services in the years before their deaths, their respective vulnerabilities, concerns about coercive and controlling behaviour and what steps had been taken to safeguard them following their arrests. The inquest also examined the adequacy of the police response once they had been reported missing.
Following a four-week hearing with a jury, His Majesty’s Area Coroner for Dorset ruled that the evidence did not safely establish any causative link between the actions of either Warwickshire or Dorset Police and the deaths.
