Amy Clarke appears on behalf of charity in significant inquest examining the risk of harm posed by gambling disorder

The inquest into the death of Jack Ritchie concluded on 4th March 2022. Jack tragically died in 2017 and the inquest into his death examined the availability of treatment for gambling disorder, the system of gambling regulation and the link between gambling disorder and suicide. The Coroner returned a narrative conclusion, determining that gambling had contributed to Jack’s death. The Coroner’s determinations highlighted the significant role that the charity sector plays in the provision of vital treatment for those negatively affected by gambling and reiterated the need for increased funding for the sector. 

Amy Clarke was instructed on behalf of GamCare, an independent charity which provides information, advice and support for anyone affected by problem gambling. The other Interested Persons included GambleAware, the Gambling Commission, the Department for Health and Social Care and the Department for Digital Culture, Media and Sport.

This inquest gathered a lot of press interest including coverage from The Guardian.
