5 Essex Chambers Shortlisted for LexisNexis Diversity and Inclusion Award

Thanks to the work of the Pupillage Committee, 5 Essex Chambers has been shortlisted for the 2019 LexisNexis Diversity and Inclusion Award. The Committee has been working to increase the transparency in the pupillage application process to prevent discrimination against applicants with no contacts at the Bar. Some of the initiatives that the Committee has introduced include:

• Being the first and only chambers to publish a detailed annual report into our pupillage recruitment process, available here: 
• Launching an Instagram account: @5essexcourt_pupillages
• Creating The Pupillage Podcast in association with Middle Temple. Georgina Wolfe and Beatrice Collier hosted the first series of the podcast which launched in January 2019. They interviewed barristers, judges and other guests, including the Lord Chief Justice and a wide range of female and BME barristers, about their careers and for tips and advice for those applying for pupillages. The podcast has been listened to over 3,000 times in 42 different countries.
• Giving talks to students at schools and law schools and taking part in initiatives such as the Urban Lawyers’ Career Conference, Women in Law Summit and Big Voice London.

5 Essex Chambers is shortlisted alongside Aspiring Solicitors, Reed Smith, Western Circuit Women’s Forum and Womble Bond Dickinson.
