The Attorney General, Jeremy Wright QC, made a statement in Parliament on 10 May 2018 announcing that settlement had been agreed in the high profile case. The Claimants had claimed that the Defendants were complicit in their rendition from Malaysia to Libya in 2004.
Georgina Wolfe and Cicely Hayward acted for the seven Defendants: the Rt Hon Jack Straw; Sir Mark Allen; the Secret Intelligence Service; the Security Service; the Attorney General; the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the Home Office.
On 21 July 2017, Popplewell J had allowed the Defendants’ application for a declaration under s 6 of the Justice and Security Act 2013: [2017] EWHC 1861 (QB). The trial of the action had been due to begin in January 2019.
