On Monday 7 April, Sir John Saunders began to hear evidence in the inquest into the death of Sean Fitzgerald who died during a police firearms operation on 4 January 2019.
Firearms officers were executing a search warrant at a property in Coventry that was believed to be connected to drug-related activity carried out by members of an organised crime group. During the operation, Sean Fitzgerald was fatally shot by a firearms officer.
Sir John Saunders is sitting with a jury and the inquest is due to last for six weeks.
